Kindergarten Field Trip to Secaps Orchard

On Tuesday (10/13/09) the Kindergarten classes had their first field trip to Secaps Orchard. I was lucky enough to go with and I have a to say, we had a lot of fun! Here are a few pictures from our cold, muddy morning of fun!

Here is a shot of the kids learning about the apples. They were taught how to know if the apples are ready to pick and what happens if you break off a piece of the branch - apples may not grow the following year. Very Interesting.

Each kid was allowed to pick an apple. Most of the kids picked 2 or 3 which was probably okay since they were all frozen (yummy!). Here are Eston and TJ looking for the perfect apple.

Here the kids were able to watch how they clean and sort the apples. First they are put onto the conveyer belt.

The apples roll over a grate which discards the apples that are too small. Then they make their way in the "shower."

After the shower they make their way onto the rollers which clean them off and move them on to be sorted.

They go over a serios of grates to sort them by size. From left to right, small medium and large. It was very interesting.

Then we made our way to the gords. They kids were allowed to pick 5 gords and 1 pumpkin to take home.

Here is my group. TJ, Maggie and Eston. These kids were absolutely awesome. We had a really good time together. Haley was also in our group but her feet were so cold that she didn't want to make the trip to the gord and pumpkin fields - she stayed back with Mrs. Fryer.

After we got back from the field trip, I stayed at the school and had lunch with Eston. It was so much fun, I definately want to do that again. Here is a shot of me and Maggie. She is such a sweetheart.
